Our Findings

A report of our visit. What do we feel about this house. what makes it charming for us ?

This former shipowner’s house with its white-stone facade is situated on one of the main streets of La Rochelle. Today it offers five beautiful guest rooms, all overlooking a courtyard garden. Upstairs are the evocatively named “Dune”, “Stone”, “Aqua” and “Digue” guest bedrooms, each furnished and decorated with care, with individual colour schemes and atmospheres. Access to them is via a beautiful eighteenth-century staircase or a lift. The “L’Insolite” guest room located in the vaulted cellar of a small outbuilding at the end of the garden offers more privacy and has a pretty bathroom. Guests are welcomed on arrival in the lounge and are served breakfast in the dining room, both on the ground floor, both prettily decorated and both overlooking the courtyard garden. The pretty town of La Rochelle is on the coast opposite the Ile de Ré, and contains many tourist attractions, including its ramparts and towers, its old harbour, its maritime museum and its aquarium. The nearby town of Rochefort is also worth a visit, to see the house of Pierre Lotti and the Royal Rope Works and Arsenal, where General La Fayette’s frigate, the “Hermione”, was reconstructed. Another local attraction is a boat trip around the Poitou marshes to explore their flora and fauna.
