De Swaenhoeck

Damme, Belgium

This traditional polders farmhouse, parts of which date back to the sixteenth century, has today been converted into holiday homes. Its whitewashed brick walls, red-tiled roof and green-and-white shutters give it lots of charm. In addition, it is surrounded by a large garden which borders a golf course. Its location just outside the pretty village of Damme, not far from Bruges, makes it an ideal base for walkers, hikers, cyclists and golfers, as well as lovers of the countryside and peace and quiet. The surrounding area has many attractions, including canals, dykes, chateaux, abbeys, farms, windmills and nature reserves. “De Swaenhoeck” has been decorated and furnished with good taste and refinement, and boasts every modern comfort. Tour de la Chapelle

Couthuin, Belgium

Built onto the side of a large fortified farmhouse, ''La Tour de la Chapell'' enjoys a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. Its walls are built of brick with blue granite window and door-frames, the traditional style of the Meuse valley. The interior is sober but sophisticated, with a living room with a wood-burning stove and a modern fitted kitchen on the ground floor. On the first floor is a large, light-filled guest bedroom with windows on three sides and a bathroom. On the second floor is a bedroom with beautiful wooden ceiling beams and four single beds and a shower-room. The colours of the walls have been chosen with care and create a delightfully charming atmosphere. They range from yellow to blue-green. The bed linen, towels, curtains and brand-new bathroom fittings are all sophisticated. A very “country” address which is an ideal base for walking, cycling or horse-riding in the La Burdinale nature reserve or for exploring the local historic buildings.

De Stamper

Damme, Belgium

This pretty eighteenth-century farmhouse with its Mansard roof is surrounded by a typical "polder" landscape of meadows and willow hedges. The rustic guest bedrooms have wooden or quarry-tiled floors and coffered ceilings with huge oak beams. They are delightfully furnished and decorated and are heated by radiators or wood-burning stoves. Marc Nyssen is well-known for the quality of his cooking and is happy to prepare meals for his guests on request using fresh, local farm produce, including organic meat. Marc manages to combine running an organic farm, welcoming his guests, cooking meals, doing the housekeeping and continuing the restoration of the building, all on his own ! Meals are served in the large, warm dining room that looks like something from a Breughel painting, with its open fire and long wooden tables. Guests who love nature and authenticity will enjoy an understated and sensitive welcome from the owner.
