Château du Romerel

Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, France

This large white house, set back from the Quai du Romerel which runs along the channel leading to the sea, is surrounded by a huge tree-filled park and a large orchard, which protects guests from the noisy crowds which pack the streets of the pretty port of St Valery in the high season. The house is entirely given over to guests, with its large lounge, its library and its dining room, where breakfast is served at small round tables with pretty china and tablecloths. Upstairs are five spacious and luxurious bedrooms with king-size beds (220 x 210 cm), lounge or office areas and comfortable bathrooms. Almost all of them overlook the park, with its majestic Cedar of Lebanon and the channel in the distance. Behind the house, opposite the orchard is a pretty pavilion containing two gites for longer stays. A little further is another small pavilion which conceals a covered swimming pool. A beautiful new address at St Valery, ideal for lovers of peace and comfort, which also harmoniously complements our other Charming B&Bs in the Bay of the Somme.

Bastide Raphaël

Saint-Raphaël-Agay , France

The views of the Mediterranean from the terraces of this beautiful old farmhouse are superb! Located a short distance from Saint-Raphaël, the Cap du Dramont is less sophisticated with its shingle beaches (where the Allied army landed in 1945), its esterellite quarries and the Ile d’Or. The two B&B owners are both architects, and decided to settle down here after many years travelling the world to manage the construction of hotels. They offer three guests suites or gites, depending on the season, which are all fully equipped for long or short stays. Each has a beautiful private terrace, some bigger than others, a separate bedroom, a lounge with a kitchenette and sofabed and a shower room. The tasteful interior design opts for pale colours, ceiling lights and furniture designed by the owners themselves. Breakfast is left on a tray outside the suite’s front door every morning, so you can eat it on your terrace overlooking the sea or indoors if the weather is cooler. The owners can also arrange boat trips in their boat or, of course, you can visit the lively resorts of Cannes or St Tropez.

Le Moulin de Vrin

Sancergues, France

The wheel of the watermill may have stopped turning, but the river is still there! It certainly enlivens and animates this place, as does the large garden with its Cameroun sheep, its donkey and its pony. In the former outhouses of the mill, opposite the main house, three resolutely contemporary-style B&B guest bedrooms have been installed. The walls are enlivened with touches of colour designed and executed by Marina, who is an amateur artist. The rooms are all on the same level, each with a private entrance and a small terrace overlooking the garden where different relaxation areas have been created. Next to the bedrooms, in the same building is a large guests’ area with lounge, dining room (where breakfasts and evening meals are served), kitchenette and large, sunny terrace. Located between the Loire and Berry regions, there are lots of places to visit, both historic (Bourges Cathedral, the Jacques Cœur route, historic villages, etc.), and linked to wine (wine cellars in the Sancerre, Pouilly, Quincy and Ménetou wine areas) and the delights of the River Loire explored by bicycle or canoe.

Moulin Guillard

Subligny, France

The Guillard Mill is buried in vegetation and comes into sight after leaving the river behind. It is a pretty building built of stone and timber, consisting of a main building and outbuildings laid out around a pretty courtyard garden. Opposite the main building is a pretty half-timbered house which is very cosy and can sleep a family in its three bedrooms. It also has two bathrooms and a lounge with an open fireplace and a piano. In the mill, upstairs are two sober but tasteful guest bedrooms, one overlooking the river and the other the garden, with a shared bathroom. They are accessed via the the back garden. Dorothée likes cooking and prepares simple meals with fresh produce, including vegetables from her garden. Meals are served in the dining room next to the kitchen or in the old log shed outside, under its pretty timber roof overlooking the garden. Behind the small house are the vegetable garden and the botanical garden, containing many varieties of geraniums, which are tended with loving care by your hostess. This is a place that oozes peace and quiet, against the murmur of flowing water, the piano and the parrot. Ideally situated between the River Loire and the Sancerre vineyards, you will be spoiled for choice for places to visit and explore in the delightful Berry region.

Le Moulin de Leymonie

Issac , France

At “Le Moulin de Leymonie” it is charm and wild or tamed nature that dominate the atmosphere. You cannot help but be seduced by the spontanaity of the building, the garden and its owners, who want to share delightful experiences with you. The two guest bedrooms and lounge with its open fireplace are both rustic and comfortable and radiate gracious living through the flowers, linen and candles that are fetish objects in this B&B. Ginette pays delicate attention to her guests, especially at breakfast time in the semi-open barn, where the heat from the fireplace meets that of the sunshine, disturbed only by the noise of the rippling stream flowing under your feet. In the hotter months, guests can relax in recliner chairs on the banks of the stream, surrounded by climbing roses. Also onsite is an organic kitchen garden containing a collection of heritage tomato plants, soon to be joined by a rare plants nursery and a natural outdoor swimming pool. The delightful intuitive cooking of generous and refined plates of organic food and a morning serenade from Cocotte and Billy the horses outside your window will delight you, as will exploring the jewels of the Périgord.

Manoir de Coutainville

Agon-Coutainville, France

Overlooking the coast, Coutainville manor house is typical of the fortified houses found on the Cotentin peninsula. The surrounding walls protect the manor house and its gardens from the wind, the gaze of passers-by and intruders! Access is via a large gateway which opens onto a courtyard garden surrounded by several buildings which house the guest bedrooms. On the first floor of the manor house, the “Seigneurie” and “Dame Jeanne” rooms have a lot of character with their old wooden floors and their ceiling beams painted white. They are both very spacious and each has a lounge area and an ensuite bathroom. The “Seigneurie” room has a pretty, old-fashioned bathroom, whereas the “Dame Jeanne” room has a zinc-and-timber round shower in the tower. The three other guest rooms are in an outbuilding, upstairs. They are smaller and more cosy and overlook the sea. The ground floor of the outbuilding is given over to guests, with a lounge with an open fireplace and a games room. Across the courtyard, the barn can be used for family reunions or other events. Sophie Véron welcomes all her guests warmly to her manor house. Her professional experience required her to travel all over the world and has equipped her to welcome her guests politely, tactfully and humourously. Her delicious meals are not to be missed! They are made with top-quality ingredients, mostly grown or made locally, and are served on a large mahogony table opposite the open fire burning in the hearth. At breakfast time, the table is covered in different sorts of bread, local specialities and apple juice, a real treat!
