Bastide Le Mourre

Oppède, France

From its hilltop location, Bastide Le Mourre enjoys superb views of the Lubéron mountains and the village of Opède-le-Vieux. The charming house is almost submerged in the abundant greenery of the garden that surrounds it. The holiday homes are in its converted small outbuildings, and are named ‘’Le Moulin’’, ‘’La Fenière’’, ‘’La Magnaneraie’’, ‘’Le Métayer’’, ‘’La Fontaine du patio’’ and ‘’Le Pigeonnier’’. Each has its own terrace overlooking the garden, a fitted kitchen-cum-dining room-cum-lounge and one or two bathrooms. They are comfortably and tastefully furnished and decorated. You will find the beds made on your arrival, plus other welcoming gestures. There are several eating areas in the garden and the swimming pool and tennis and boules courts are set a discreet distance away. This is an ideal base for exploring the Lubéron National Park and the nearby hilltop villages on foot or by bicycle or for attending the concerts, plays, operas and exhibitions during the summer festivals.

Le Grand Clos Normand

Varengeville sur mer , France

Le Clos Normand is a beautiful family-owned estate, set in exceptional countryside. A series of gardens (English, Water, Orchard…) link together several houses. Le Grand Clos Normand dates from the 1930s and charm oozes from its brick walls and verandah. The verandah links a large lounge with the garden, and is perfect in the summer, whereas in the colder months guests prefer the cosier small lounge with its open fireplace and bookcase. The ground floor also has a dining room and fitted kitchen. On the first floor is a large bedroom with a bookcase which overlooks the garden and communicates with the other bedroom with which it shares a bathroom. A fourth bedroom with ensuite bathroom occupies the second floor. The B&B is located in the charming and tranquil hamlet of Varengeville-sur-mer, which has a rich artistic, cultural and musical history, and it is just a short walk to the cliffs and the sea.

Gourel

Brachy, France

Located inland, 10km from the sea, which is accessed via the pretty Saane valley, this house is in the charmingly tranquil hamlet of Gourel. It is a charming, traditional, half-timbered Norman longhouse, surrounded by a large flower-filled garden. It has been very tastefully decorated inside, with exposed beams and walls painted in pale hues. The open-plan lounge includes several different areas: office, games, fireside, and has a door opening onto the dining room. Also on the ground floor are a fitted kitchen and a scullery/laundry. The first floor is divided into two areas, one for parents with two double bedrooms and a shared bathroom and one for children with two three-bedded bedrooms and a bathroom. The house has a lived-in atmosphere, is very comfortable and well-equipped,and, what is more, is beautifully furnished and decorated.

La Ferme des Cerisiers

Orbey , France

Located in the depths of the countryside, inside the Ballons des Vosges National Park, this large alpage farmhouse has been superbly renovated and converted into a charming gîte. The building overlooks a beautiful landscape of valleys, meadows and woods. Located at around 600m above sea level, it is an ideal base for hikers, walkers, cyclists, cross-country skiers or snow-shoers, depending on the season. The main part of the building has been carefully restored with great attention to detail. It has every modern comfort, a fully-fitted kitchen, a pretty dining room with a large wooden table and benches, an Alsatian ceramic stove and a convivial lounge. There is also a double bedroom and a separate bathroom on the ground floor. The three other bedrooms are upstairs and share a modern bathroom. They are large, prettily furnished and decorated and flooded with daylight. In addition, the beds will be made when you arrive and the bath towels prepared for you. It has been awarded ’’Ecogîte’’ and ‘’Gîte de charme’’ status, both well-deserved for this beautiful place where you will be welcomed by Christine and Jean-Marie and some local specialities!

La Dîme

Giverny , France

Giverny, the birthplace of Impressionism, is where Claude Monet set up his family home and painting studio in 1883. Today, you can visit his house and studio and see his remarkable collection of Japanese prints, as well as the magnificent gardens, with the “Clos Normand” and the ponds full of water-lilies. Located on the banks of the River Seine, where it meanders and where the sky and clouds reflect in its waters, the village is charming. It is a delightful place to stroll around, with its art galleries, museums, gardens and “guinguettes”. At the heart of the village is the charming “La Dîme” B&B. You enter the building through a small doorway which opens onto a pretty courtyard with its old well. The guest bedrooms are spread around the various buildings that surround the courtyard, and are very tastefully decorated. Each has its own style and personality: “Butterflys”, “Moon”, “Studio”, “China” and “White”. Opposite is the beautiful eighteenth-century tithe barn, formerly used to store the tithe and now converted into a space for receptions, meetings or workshops. There is also a breakfast room and a lounge. Behind the house, in the huge garden are deck-chairs, armchairs and other chairs, that have been positioned with care in the best spots for relaxation or meditation. A very beautiful address and an ideal place to recharge your batteries or to allow yourself to be inspired by your surroundings.

La Roseraie

Templeuve, Belgium

Located a stone’s throw from Tournai, Lille and Roubaix, “La Roseraie” oozes Art Nouveau charm, set in the middle of a flower-filled garden. Behind the house is a swimming pool to which guests have access and a path leads to a meadow where donkeys and ponies graze. The large dining room on the ground floor is where breakfast is served to guests. The meal includes organic fruit juices from the garden; home-made bread, jams and chocolate; cheese, pastries and pancakes… all excellent. The second floor is devoted to guests: the owners converted their children’s bedrooms into two beautiful guest rooms after their children left home, and named them after two varieties of rose: “Buff Beauty” and “Soleil d’Or”, which grow in the garden. They are very comfortable and beautifully decorated, each with a pretty bathroom. Off the same landing is a relaxation area with a sauna, rest area, minibar and coffee machine, also available to guests The travel photos and paintings hanging here and there on the walls are by Carine and one of her children. A warm, friendly atmosphere between Belgium and France.

Edenglen

‘’Edenglen’’(or “Paradise Valley”) is surrounded by a superb garden that has been redesigned by Marguerite and Cédric, your hosts. The garden contains many beautiful, large trees, huge beds of rhododendrons (which flower in May), hydrangeas, roses and other seasonal flowers. The house oozes charm. It was built in the 1930s in the English Tudor style, of red brick on a square plan, with large windows overlooking the garden. Two guest rooms are available upstairs. They are very cosy, decorated in pretty pastel hues, each with a tea and coffee tray. They feature excellent beds and bedlinen and very stylish bathrooms with pretty washbasins. Breakfast is served each morning in your hosts’ dining room on a prettily laid table. Against the bright green walls, guests can admire display cases, paintings and other souvenirs of your hosts’ many foreign travels. Guests also have access to the large lounge overlooking the garden and its terrace. A haven of greenery and calm, only a few kilometres from Wavre, Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels.

The landscape of the Poitou marshes, known as “Green Venice” is unique, criss-crossed with channels, narrow tracks and bridges that can be explored on foot, by bicycle or by boat, with or without a guide, to discover its flora and fauna. The monks who organised the draining of the marshes over the years since the tenth century left many abbeys behind them that can be visited today. In the village of Chaillé-les-Marais, the ‘’Côté-Marais’’ B&B offers several guest rooms in an outbuilding. They are spacious and traditionally furnished and share a lounge-cum-library and a small covered courtyard. The large garden, with its swimming pool in a former vegetable patch are open to guests in fine weather. On request, Paul and Florence can prepare picnic lunches or set-menu evening meals prepared with local produce, served with local wines. This is an ideal base from which to explore the Poitou marshes, the many nearby abbeys, La Rochelle, the île de Ré or the Puy du Fou!

Villa Claude

On the outskirts of the small town of Cognac, the Villa Claude is surrounded by a vast walled garden. Dating back to 1914, the building has beautiful rooms with Art Nouveau woodwork. Guests have access to the lounge, dining room and library. The guest rooms upstairs are spacious. The Blue Room is decorated in pretty pale hues and has traditional furniture. The suite is named after Claude Boucher, who gave his name to the villa, and includes a bedroom with a double bed, a lounge with a sofa bed and a terrace. Guests seeking a quieter or more intimate atmosphere can go up to the Antenne Room on the second floor. While evening meals are not available at this B&B, your hosts can recommend some excellent restaurants in Cognac and also suggest nearby places to visit to explore the region’s Roman heritage.

Domaine de L'Osage

On the road to the South, between the Ardèche and Provence, not far from Orange and Avignon, this beautiful B&B is an ideal spot for an overnight stop. Surrounded by a large garden with relaxation areas and a swimming pool, the house oozes charm. The five tastefully furnished guest bedrooms are in a separate building. On the ground floor, the ‘’La Cour’’ room opens onto a beautiful courtyard reserved for guests. The other four guest bedrooms are located on the second floor and share a small lounge. The exposed beams, warm-hued walls and exotic furniture create a cosy atmosphere. The beautiful bathrooms have coloured ceramic tiles. There are also four gîtes, each sleeping four. Meals are served in the Orangery, a beautiful room that can also be used for meetings, training courses or family get-togethers. The B&B is located at the entrance to the Ardèche Caves nature reserve, and there are many local walks to explore the caves, the river, villages and markets.
