Metafort

Méthamis, France

Overlooking the Nesque Gorge, Métafort enjoys superb views of the mountains. It is an imposing stone building located in the montain village of Méthamis. It has been comprehensively restored by Isa and Philippe and converted into a charming B&B. The third-floor bedroom is called “Under the Stars” and its bed can be slid out onto the terrace. The ‘’Cocoon’’ bedroom on the second floor is flooded with daylight: its five windows offer superb views over the mountains and the village. The other bedrooms on the same floor are cosy and are called ‘’Lili’’ and ‘’Opaline’’. They are decorated in pretty shades of mauve and beige. On the ground floor, the ‘’Diamantina’’ suite and “Le Flat’’ offer more privacy. The kitchenette allows guests staying in “Le Flat” to self-cater. The bedrooms are furnished and decorated with taste, including salvaged metal furniture picked up here and there, linen sheets and curtains and unusual light fittings. Brightly coloured paintings by Isa hang on the walls. Each bedroom and suite has a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi, some of the bathrooms are in the bedroom, others are separate. In the basement, guests have access to a huge lounge-cum-dining room which overlooks the garden and the swimming pool carved out of the rock. Breakfast is served in this room, as well as the evening meals, available on Saturdays only. Her menus are inventive and are prepared with fresh local produce, much of which is organic. Villa Saint Patrice

Saint Alban-Auriolles, France

This B&B is located a stone’s throw from the Ardèche gorges and the Pont d’Arc in a region full of beautiful landscapes and charming villages. It overlooks the village of Saint Alban-Auriolles, and resmbles an Italian palazzo with its huge loggia that links the two wings of the building. Behind the house, chiselled from the rock is an elliptical swimming pool set on a mound covered in a variety of trees and plants (cactus, palms, Judas trees, cedars, hackberries, etc.). The ruins of an old silkworm farm give it a theatrical touch. The young couple who bought the villa fell in love with it at first sight, and they have restored it and converted it into a B&B among other things. The three guest rooms – beige, blue and honey – are each decorated in different hues of the main colour and are on the second floor. There is also a family suite that can sleep up to four people. Breakfast is served in the dining room or on the loggia, with its stunning views of the Ardèche hills. An address that is perfect for lovers of sports, nature or historic buildings.

La Bichonnière

Lindry , France

A beautiful avenue of birch trees leads to the B&B ‘’La Bichonnière’’. The building is a traditional Burgundian long house, resembling a manor house, surrounded by a huge tree-filled park. Its owners Stéphane and Julia de Wellenstein first used it as a country house, then their home before converting it into a B&B. Its long beams in dark wood, its huge fireplace and the music room with instruments available for guests to play give it lots of charm. It is furnished with inherited furniture and various ornaments picked up here and there or brought back from the countries where the owners have stayed, including Madagascar and Greece. Upstairs, connected by a long corridor, are the five guest rooms, named after woodland creatures: owl, eagle owl, squirrel, etc. The “Turtle Dove” room is in the tower and has a bed on a mezzanine and views of the surrounding countryside. The “Squirrels” suite has two bedrooms and a bathroom which make it ideal for small family groups. Breakfast is served in one of the dining rooms, depending on the season. It is very copious and varied, including no less then 10 different home-made jams, and will set you up for the day! A beautiful address not far from Paris, near Auxerre, the Parc du Morvan, vineyards and the Château de Guédelon, a castle being built using mediaeval methods.

Le Roussel

Laugnac , France

“Le Roussel” is a former Gallo-Roman villa, set amid fields and an ideal place to relax and to contemplate. It is a harmonious mixture of several buildings: the home of France and Jean-Luc, who welcome their guests like old friends, the charming “Petite Maison”, the “Atelier” room and the delightful former chapel, now an unusual gite. France and Jean-Luc have used their talent to tastefully furnish and decorate the guest rooms and gite, with its small lounge and kitchen area, a real bonus for longer stays. The peaceful countryside setting makes this B&B an excellent place for meditation and inspiration, breathing in the fresh air, far from the madding crowd. The magnificent swimming pool and the nearby GR 652 long-distance footpath and Pilgrims’ Way to Santiago de Compostella complete this incomparable place in the well-preserved Lot & Garonne region. Nestling amid valleys, “Le Roussel” is close to the two charming villages of Prayssas and Montpezat, and only 15km from Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Agen, with their restaurants serving traditional dishes of the South-West. A stay at “Le Roussel” involves many encounters: with nature; with culture; with France, who is also a portrait painter and an art-history fan and who takes inspiration from her surroundings, and with Jean-Luc, a carpenter with a special talent for restoring historic buildings.

Prévinquières , France

“Le Portail Haut” overlooks the mediaeval fortified village of Prévinquières, on the bank of the River Aveyron. They are all traditionally furnished, spacious and comfortable, with beautiful ensuite bathrooms. Guests have every comfort, plus access to a fitted kitchen, dining room, lounges and laundry room. Palazzu Pigna

Pigna , France

La Balagne is a region of North-West Corsica, not far from Calvi and the Ile Rousse. It is a beautiful area, full of villages clinging to sea-facing hillsides with houses with ochre-rendered walls and orange-tiled roofs. One such village is Pigna, where cars are banned, making it an oasis of calm, filled with music. Its small, newly restored church, its contemporary-style auditorium built of rammed earth, its cafés and restaurants, welcome mostly Corsican musical performers from April to October. The beautiful Palazzu Pigna is located towards the upper part of the village. Dominique Franscheschini has restored this eighteenth-century family home and converted it into a small hotel with a gastronomic restaurant, while retaining its original charm and ambiance. The walls of the entrance hall and stairwell are hung with paintings by local artists. On the first floor are two beautiful, huge, one-bedroom suites with sofabeds for one or two people in the lounge, old-fashioned bathrooms and terraces with superb views of the valley and the sea. On the second (attic) floor are two small bedrooms which share a terrace; the third bedroom is larger and has a sofabed for an extra person and a beautiful terrace. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the garden. A beautiful place where you will be warmly welcomed to a charming family home!
