Les Cabanes du Moulin

Orly sur Morin, France

The Little Morin river, which used to drive the watermill, now meanders its way through meadows and woods and provides a relaxing backdrop to these three cabins perched in the trees, as well as opportunities for swimming, boating and fishing for visitors of all ages. The cabins are each designed to be used in a different way. “La Rivière” is the highest up, with its sleeping bags for five people and its shower room and kitchen on the ground below. “L’Ile” is surrounded by water and has a jacuzzi on its terrace. “La Clairière” is in a clearing in the woods, with its roof shaped like a witch’s hat and an indoor staircase. All three cabins have running water, electricity, heating, shower rooms and earth toilets. The beds will be made for you when you arrive and bath towels are provided. Les Folies de la Serve

Ouroux, France

The caravans are situated in a meadow near the River Serve for guests who want to experience another lifestyle. They have been restored and redecorated in traditional style by Pascal and Pascaline and are very cosy, with hints of different styles: lovers, fairgrounds and stars. The house has also undergone a comprehensive restoration, with exotic touches, such as its carved-wood loggias, and mediaeval touches, such as its square tower overlooking the rest of the building. The two unusual guest bedrooms are located in the tower and are named “Dreams of a Nomad Princess” and “The Seven Colours of Time”. Each has a four-poster bed, rich brocade draperies, imported ornaments and filtered lighting that will transport you to the Orient! In one wing of the house are the lounge, dining room, kitchen and bathroom for guests staying in the caravans. There is also a loggia where you can spend a pleasant moment at teatime or in the evening. On some evenings, Pascaline can prepare set-menu dinners or picnic baskets on request. This B&B’s situation in the Beaujolais hills offers many opportunities for walks or hikes, to help recharge your batteries in this timeless place.

Cabanes des Grands Chênes

Raray , France

At a time when tree cabins are becoming widespread in France, the Great Oak cabins were recently installed in the park of the Chateau de Raray, situated in the Oise& Pays de France National Park, north of Paris. They are thus more accessible for a weekend, and also more comfortable than most, with shower rooms, electricity, sheets and towels: some even have hot tubs. They are nevertheless high in the trees, 6m to 13m above the ground, hidden in the foliage. The ‘’Cachette’’ and “Tribu” family cabins are more spacious than the others, and can accommodate up to five people. Romantic evenings can be arranged, with rose petals, a bottle of champagne and a set-menu meal of local specialities. Early each morning, your breakfast of local specialities is placed in a basket at the bottom of your tree, and you can hoist it up to your cabin using the pulley, which can also be used to hoist up your luggage. And to round off your stay, you can enjoy a round of golf on the 9-hole or 18-hole courses in the park, or visit the nearby chateaux at Chantilly and Pierrefonds. Children will love a visit to the Sand Sea and Asterix Parks.

Les Cabanes des Grands Lacs

Chassey-lès-Montbozon , France

Suspended from trees or floating on water, “Les Cabanes des Grands Lacs” are well-integrated into the landscape, spread out over some 130 hectares or lakes and woods. The cabins are well-hidden in the foliage of oak trees and are all different, both in size (for couples or families) and height off the ground (from 4m to 12m). Access is via stairs, ladders, suspended bridges or, for more sporty guests, by zip line. The Cabins floating on the water are fun with their pointy-hat roofs! The ones on the edge of the lake are accessed by pontoons, those in the middle of the lake by boat. Some have hot tubs filled with lake water. There is no running water or electricity here, the cabins are lit by candles or oil lamps, there is a container of drinking water and a composting toilet in each. A central communal building offers showers, flush toilets and a large lounge with board games, books and a coffee machine for rainy days. While breakfast is provided in the form of a well-filled basket left each morning at dawn outside each cabin, aperitifs and set-menu evening meals (Local specialities, Gourmet or Child’s) are available on request at extra cost. A place for an unforgettable stay, as a couple or in a family, close to nature in the foliage of the trees or on the water’s surface.

Hôme du Monde

Bretteville l’Orgueilleuse , France

L’Hôme du Monde is a journey in itself. Once through the front door, another world opens up before you, the world of Philippe and Catherine’s many travels, in Asia and elsewhere. The house is full of souvenirs of these trips, including masks, statuettes, string-puppets and other exotic items. The guest bedrooms also have stories to tell. The Maharani room has an Indian theme, the Genghis Khan room was to amuse their daughter who dreamed of sleeping in a yurt, the Captain’s room is a reminder of their ancestors who were captains of ocean-going ships, and the more traditional French room will suit those who want to come home to France. All of them overlook the rear of the house, with its pretty patio, pond and plants for the downstairs rooms and with a huge terrace shaped like a ship’s bridge for the upstairs rooms. Both patio and terrace are furnished with reclining chairs and sun loungers, ideal for relaxing. Philippe holds the tiller and welcomes guests, as well as preparing the breakfasts, which include home-made jams, bread and cakes. In the evenings, he takes over the kitchen to prepare delicious local specialities using the best local produce. Located near the coast, between Caen and Bayeux, this B&B is an excellent base for exploring the coast and further inland.Guests who cannot do without the sea and a lighthouse can stay in Philippe and Catherine’s gite at Gatteville-Phare, at the tip of the Cotentin peninsula.

Châteaux dans les arbres

Nojals-et-Clotte , France

This is not Sleeping Beauty’s castle, these are simply wooden cabins in the trees. Beaumes de Venise, France

Set back from the village of Beaumes de Venise, surrounded by vines, Le Clos Saint Saourde offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, set against the background of the "Montmirail Lace" hills. One wing of this Provençal farmhouse has been converted to house four beautiful and tasteful guest rooms and suites. They are spacious and prettily furnished and decorated. The ground floor rooms are particularly cool, due to their stone walls. The bathrooms are impressive, cut into the rock with baths and washbasins made of stone covered in ochre tadelakt stucco.
